Transition and Rebuilding

The council changed leadership qualifications, held interviews, and hired a new Council Administrator Pamela Becker.  Many new members were recruited to the council, including parents, legislators, people representing public departments, and community organizations.  The by-laws were reviewed and updated.

Educational Opportunities

CYCC sponsored the film Resilience: The biology of stress and the science of hope screenings with a focused panel discussion about Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs). They were shown across NH with a combined attendance of 250 people.  The council also held regular meetings with an informal leadership group about implementing ACEs/Trauma informed care.

Members of the council toured NH sites such as Families First Health and Support Center in Portsmouth and Richie McFarland Child Center in Stratham.

Advocacy

The council supported our parent member, Deodonne Bhattarai, who advocated for Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA) to be added to the newborn screening panel.  The Newborn Screening Advisory Council voted unanimously to add SMA to the panel.
