On the evening of June 23rd, CYCC celebrated families and the council’s work over the last couple of years at the McAuliffe-Shepard Discovery Center in Concord, NH. The highlights entailed; a PhotoVoice Gallery project that is apart of the the council’s year long Needs Assessment in collaboration with JSI/Community Health Institute, and five CYCC Champion Award winners.
The PhotoVoice Project gives a descriptive qualitative account to go along with the data collected from the Needs Assessment survey. It is an immersive experience into families caring for a youth with a chronic health condition. The families, including the children, took many photos to capture their day to day life. The best were chosen and the families wrote about their thoughts along with the photos.
The five Champion Award winners exemplify the definition of being leaders in their community, while at the same time educating the public on chronic health conditions. Please look for personalized summary posts of each winner, Lillian Brady, Bayleigh Clock, Sadie McCallum, Liberty Fink, and Emma Parcells on the website in the next few weeks.
The celebration continued with an Uno’s pizza dinner, crafts, scavenger hunts, a Planetarium Show and an appearance by Wonder Woman. Sadie McCallum, one of the Champion Winners, exclaimed at the end of the night, “This was so much fun! I felt like I fit in and belonged with everyone attending.”
